Pentesting & red teaming
What is Purple teaming?
Definition
A collaborative exercise where attackers (red) and defenders (blue) work together in real time, running attack techniques and checking which ones are detected.
How it works
Purple teaming turns testing into improvement. Testers run specific techniques, often mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, while the defence team watches for alerts. Gaps are fixed and retested in the same session.
It is a fast way to prove detection coverage and tune monitoring.
Key points
- Red and blue teams work side by side
- Techniques mapped to MITRE ATT&CK
- Detection gaps fixed and retested in the session
- Produces measurable coverage improvements
Common questions
How is it different from red teaming?
Red teaming is covert and tests response; purple teaming is open and focuses on improving detection.
What do we get?
A map of which techniques were detected, which were not, and what changed.
